Since 1998, YWCA Dayton has set aside one special day to recognize and honor women of influence in the community. It celebrates Dayton’s most influential women, all of whom have made a difference in the community through their dedication to the YWCA mission of empowering women, eliminating racism and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
The YWCA approached me about creating a 3-dimensional award piece for the 2022 Women of Influence Awards. The only perameters were that it had to serve as a sculpture like piece that one would be excited to display, and that it included the theme of "Lift."
A life of service is a story of overlap, complexity and layers. This piece is compiled of translucent acrylic that is layered to create shifting colors and forms.
The letters from the theme “LIFT” is cut out from squares of acrylic. Each honoree can customize their piece by rearranging the letters. Depending where the opaque white piece is placed, different forms and color combos will reveal themselves.
